Apple iPhone bluetooth headset with iTouch?

Some one gave me a new (unused) old Apple iPhone bluetooth headset – yes the one that is discontinued now. I have an iTouch 2nd Gen, and just upgraded the software so that it has Bluetooth capability. I was hoping to listen to music through it. I can’t get them to pair up. I turned Bluetooth on in my iTouch and set the headset to be discoverable, but they aren’t seeing each other. Has anyone done this? If so, what am I missing? Or are they even compatible? Thanks!
