Why does my nokia headset have only one earbud?

I have been searching for a headset for my Nokia 6555 (not a bluetooth) just a regular one with earbuds that will work for talking and playing music. It seems all of the headsets now have only one earbud. Is this the new style for earbuds? Does it work well? P.S. the reason I did not go with bluetooth headset is because I heard most only work for talking not listening to music, unless you go for a really expensive one.
