Iphone: Can you use earphones on a call?

currently, with my nokia I use the plug-in earpiece. Its the most comfortable way for me to hear and use the phone.
(no lectures about bluetooth please, I’m recovering from a brain tumour, and those things that go behind your ear are no good for me, with my scarring etc.)
I’m thinking about getting an iPhone, but would like to know if one can use the iPod earphones plugged into the iPhone to make and receive calls. or do you have to hold the set up to your ear?

Yep. I do that too when I’m on the train to block out the background noise and hide my phone from potential thieves.

Just talk into the small microphone along the right earphone’s cord and press the sides to adjust the volume like how you would when listening to music.
